NSO 2006

August 26th, 2006

I’m in the midst of New Student Registration right now (yeah…I’m blogging while I’m working…go figure). Yesterday was the first day of New Student Orientation…and it was amazing. It’s days like that…that remind why I work for Greenville College. As silly as it may sound, I nearly teared up a couple times yesterday…as I watched all of the new students enter into our little community. I absolutely loved my time at this place…and I can only hope that each of these new students finds that same peace. Anyway…point being…I love my job!

My favorite food….

August 24th, 2006

….is Pizza! And last night we discovered the joys (and sorrows) of cooking a pizza on the grill. We did face one small problem…a flare up in the coals…which caused the crust to burn a bit on the bottom. However, the cheese and the rest of the crust were awesome. Had there been no burnt crust…I dare say it would have been just like it was from a pizza parlor. Anyway…go make a pizza on the grill….it’s fantastic! (Make sure to make the pizza by hand…get a crust, sauce, cheese and whatever other toppings you want….it’s better than just slapping a frozen pizza on there.)

Great Weekend

August 21st, 2006

I see that my dear hubby posted a fun blog earlier today, but I’ll do our updating from this weekend. We headed home for Danver’s Days (a little celebration in the town where my sister-in-law lives.) We stayed with her and her family for the weekend…which was a much needed getaway from Greenville. We got to spend time with 2 of our nieces and with most of Jared’s family. (Once again showing us how much we miss being close to home.) There was a carnival, arts and crafts booths, fair food, a parade….and my first EVER 5K run! That’s right…this weekend I ran my first ever 5K run…thanks to motivation of my husband. It hurt a bit…not going to lie…but it was worth it to do something that Jared enjoys so much. We certainly didn’t win…but didn’t end up coming in last….and we finished….so I was pleased. As a reward and motivation….we bought new running shoes from a running store (not just some random shoes on sale at Value City). Anyway….we headed back home late last night….and now we’re back in Greenville….eagerly awaiting the arrival of 1,000+ students in the next coming week. I love my life!

just to clear some stuff up…

For the record, our two cat’s names are Maxwell and Eleanor. We would prefer that everyone calls them just that instead of say “Max” or “Elly.” Maxwell and Eleanor are just “prettier” sounding.

You wouldn’t call Abigail “Abby” and you wouldn’t call Johnny “John” would you?

(PS, this post is specifically for two people out there who read Ginny’s blog… if it doesn’t make sense to you, then you aren’t one of the two.)

Ahhhh….

August 18th, 2006

I’m looking at Master’s Programs….how crazy is that?! Also…I’m sitting at home…waiting for the dyer repairman to get here. He’s 20 minutes late…and I need to get back to the office. Yeah, our dryer stopped dryer sometime earlier this week. I haven’t had any time to take clothes to the laundry mat (and no desire either!). So…I’m really hoping the dryer’s not dead, and that we can still get some life out of it. Though I’d absolutely love a newer washer and dryer set, I’m definitely not in the mood to purchase them right now. So I will keep waiting…patiently…for the dryer fixer-upper guy to get here. Sigh….

Shopping fun…

August 16th, 2006

Ah yes…a night out with the girls…and we went shopping. Finally, I went shopping a store other than Value City….I was so excited! I treated myself to a new work suit for travel season and a few new dresses for the office as well. Oh…and of course I didn’t make it out of there without a new pair of shoes and some over-sized earrings. Add to all of that my large slice of pizza from Sbarros…and it was a fantastic night! On a slightly similiar note….I need to get rid of clothes to make room for my new stuff….I absolutely hate getting rid of clothes! I know…I know….not really a major issue to worry about. Anyway…there’s my quick update…and now back to work!

Yes…another post…finally…

August 15th, 2006

So a lot has happened throughout the last few weeks, I just haven’t had much time to update. Just over a week ago (not this weekend…but the weekend before) we had the chance to go to our family reunion in Iowa. So Jared and I headed out for the fantastic event on Friday morning….and we stayed through Sunday. It was so nice to be away from work…and with our family. The weather was awesome too, perfect for being on the lake, golfing (of the mini variety), croquet (a family tradition) and lots of other fun things. Last week was a pretty normal work week. Things have been calming down quite a bit, so I was able to work on a lot of little projects. I went to see “The Devil Wears Prada” last week with the girls….which was amazing. Not only did it make me want to buy stupid-expensive clothing and shoes…it really made me happy with where I’m at in life. (Amazing husband, our own house, great church, my own car, etc. etc.) This weekend Jared and I went to see Taladaga Nights….hillarious! Even despite the obnoxious girls sitting in the back row…that talked through the ENTIRE movie. (We tried to get them kicked out.) We spent some much needed time cleaning out the garage as well. Not fun by any means….but wow…our garage is so organized now! Jared had praise band on Saturday….so I spent the evening eating Mario’s pizza and watching Gray’s Anatomy re-runs. Sunday we went to church and got to hang out with the Dugan’s for a bit. (Which included some most amazing Steak-n-Shake.) The evening was spent finishing up the garage cleaning and lounging around with the kitties. Which brings us to yesterday….I ran 2 miles with Jared…what the heck!? We’ve decided to run a 5k on Sunday, which I’ve never done before, so we’ll see how that goes. The 2 miles last night didn’t get me…and I’m still moving today…but who knows?! Anyway….I need to get back to work….adios!

Family Reunion

August 4th, 2006

Only one more hour at work…and then Jared and I are off for a weekend in Iowa with the family. Every other year we go to this big family reunion out there. It’s in the middle of nowhere, but it’s always a lot of fun. I’m just excited to be with family for a whole weekend. We get to see grandma and my brothers and my sisters and my nieces and nephews….good times! I cleaned around the house all last night. I figured it might be nice to come home to a clean house. It took me all night, but every piece of laundry is clean and every floor is swept and mopped. I don’t mind cleaning, especially since it’s my own house. I worked outside on our porch a bit too. Jared let me get a wicker set for the front porch this week…so I worked on getting that organized as well. I’m really happy with the porch. I’d like a few more little things done with it, but I think it looks pretty cute now. I put the park benches (which used to be on the porch) on the back patio. I put all of the geraniums around them, and it’s been really nice to have some seating back there around the grill area. We’ve also (slowly) but surely been painting the back entry way. The old knotty pine is slowly becoming a nice pale butter color. I’m not a big fan of painting tall ceilings, so it’s taking us a awhile. Some day though….we’ll have a really fun French inspired back entry! Anyway…I better wrap this up. I have a quick meeting with a student and then I’m off to pack up the car! Adios!

Quick Update…

We’re getting another niece!!! Yay!!!
