House Update!

2005
11.30

Ok, if anyone actually reads this thing…then I’m sure you’re wanting an update on the house and whatnot. To start with…Thanksgiving was fantastic.

Some Thanksgiving Highlights…
-Getting to Emden in time for homemade pizza with mom on Wednesday night.
-Watching Jared run the Turkey Trot (a 5k race) early Thanksgiving morning (even though I thought I was going to freeze to death!)
-Seeing Da Michael’s (good friends of ours from old school Vale days).
-Thanksgiving lunch at Grandma Cox’s house….yummmmmm.
-Thanksgiving dinner at Kristina’s….yummmmm.
-Getting to hang out with the Shandley’s (who we haven’t seen in like 8 months!)
-Taking mom to IKEA on Friday…and buying things for the new house at IKEA.
-Sleeping in on Saturday (much needed!)
-Gas for under $2.00

Now…some updates on the moving process….
-Steven and Norma staying over with us on Saturday night (and eating at Lottawatta Creek).
-Got the keys and garage door opener Saturday evening.
-Cleaned the house all Sunday and moved some boxes over.
-Mom, Dad and Greg all came Monday morning.
-Jared and I took a half-day at work to help finish up the packing.
-We moved EVERYTHING that was left on Monday….which was a lot of stuff.
-Got most everything in the kitchen put away and the living room looks somewhat uncluttered now.
-Went to Vandalia for a Pizza Hut break with the family.
-Greg had to go home, but mom and dad stayed overnight in the guest house (aka…the apartment with sleeping bags!).
-While we were at work on Tuesday, mom and dad cleaned up the apartment and did a few other little things around the house. (We helped out over lunch and when we got home from work.)

That brings us to now….getting settled, but still a large amount of stuff to unpack and find new homes for. I think I’m going to put up our Christmas tree tonight for a change in pace (I’m hoping it helps motivate me to get the rest of our stuff put away.) Once the weekend gets here again…I’m guessing we’ll be able to finish up a lot of the unpacking (fingers crossed at least!). We’ll get some pictures posted once we get a chance.

Well Jared and I are totally immersed in packing up the apartment. (I forgot how much I hate packing!) We were able to get a lot of boxes from our landlords and our friends, which has been a big help. We’ve made a pretty good dent so far, but there’s still a lot more to get done. We both get a little misty eyed when we think about how much we loved this apartment. It’ll be sad to leave it behind. At least we’ll live down the street…so we can keep an eye on it! We were so excited to move in to this apartment a year ago. (Primarily because that meant we could move out of Southland!) We’re definitely freaking out about having our own house though….cause who wouldn’t be?! It’ll be so much fun to unpack everything there and be able to really settle down this time. Anyway…just my few thoughts on moving. Time to get back to work. I have a lot to get done before Thanksgiving break gets here. Yay for Thanksgiving! I can’t wait to see family again!

Well…Jared and I are now officially homeowners! (YAY!!!!) We closed on our new house this morning and everything’s good to go. We kept hearing horror stories of how it takes like 3 hours of signing papers to close on a house, but we were in and out in less than 45 minutes. The couple that currently lives there is closing on their new house today as well. They’ll be moving over this next week. We get to take possession of our new house no later than November 27th. (Happy Thanksgiving everyone…wanna help us move?!) It still really hasn’t hit me that we own a house. I’m guessing that will happen once the realtor hands us the keys and the “sold” sign goes up. We have to start packing this week. We’ve been waiting to pack until we closed…just in case somethinghappened and the deal fell through. (If you’ve got extra boxes…send them our way!) It’ll be sad to leave our apartment, because we love it so much. There’s so many other things that I’m excited about though….like painting….and landscaping…and a pet…and playing my music loudly! I am not excited to pay for utilities again…but it’ll be worth it. Anyway, I won’t make this too long…just wanted to give a quick update. I need to get back to answering work e-mails. Adios!

Well, it’s about time for another weekend. We’ve decided to ditch Greenville for a few days and head up to see some family. (Even though we’ll see them again for Thanksgiving.) We’re heading up to Emden tonight to stay over at my parents house. We’ve got a meeting tomorrow morning in Lincoln to finish up details about our home insurance. (We close in less than a week!!!!) We’re also planning to do a little home shopping while we’re up there. There’s a few used furniture stores in Lincoln that I wanted to check out. We’re looking for a new dining room table set…and I was hoping to find something antique-y there. Bed Bath and Beyond is definitely on the list as well. We have to get some new bathroom things…since we’ll now have 2 bathrooms. (That’s right…2….finally!) Jared also needs to stop by him mom’s house…so we can visit and he can get his hair cut. That night we’re staying over in El Paso at Geof and Lauri’s. That’s excited because a) we never get to see them, let alone hang out for a decent amount of time and b) we’re getting Monicals for supper! (I’m drooling just thinking about that delicious pizza….yummmm….) Sunday we’ll probably go to church at Vale with mom and dad and go out for lunch with them. Should be a good weekend. Next week will be crazy because we’re closing on the house. We move in like 15 days or something like that….we really need to start packing! I hate packing, but I’m actually pretty excited about it this time. (Only because I know we won’t have to move again for quite some time!) Anyway, I better finish this up. I have to give a campus tour in a just a few minutes! Adios!

Weekend…

The weekend’s almost here…yay! I’m finishing up a long week here in Admissions. I think I’m just exhausted from traveling so much. Hopefully I can get some much needed sleep this weekend and start fresh on Monday. Last night Jared and I went to Vandalia with the Morford’s for “Operation LJS!”. (We ate a Long John Silvers.) There’s nothing like eating a piece of chicken or fish that instantaneously clogs your arteries! It’s so good though…but so bad! (The good part usually outweighs the bad part in my mind!) I need to start cleaning the apartment after work today. We have some friends coming to look at the apartment on Saturday…so it needs to look good. (ie….get all of the clothes off the bedroom floor and clean up the kitchen.) We’re trying to help our landlord find some new renters for the place after we leave. (T-13 days until we close on the house…and 23 days until it’s all ours!) Jared’s brother Steven will be around Greenville this coming week and he’s stopping by to visit on Sunday night. We’re going to take him over to see the new house and get some dinner. Anyway, I better wrap this up and get back to work. I’d like to get out of here at a decent hour today!

House Update

So today we checked back in with the bank. We were approved for our loan and the appraisal went well. Sooo…on November 17th we get to close on the house. The only thing that could go wrong at this point is if the sellers were to back out. (And we know that’s not going to happen!) Yay for getting a house!!!!

That’s a link to our “pumpkins” from this year. Scroll over the pictures for a nice suprise!

Halloween was a fun time this year. Despite the rain, we actually had quite a few trick-or-treaters this year. It was so much fun to see all of their cute costumes. I dressed up as a Hartem High School cheerleader….yeah, I know, so original. I had one girl ask me if I actually was a cheerleader…and when I told her I was…she just went wooooow…I’m going to be a cheerleader too. How cute are kids?! Anyway, we still have lots of candy left, but we gave out quite a bit too. Mandy and Alan brought Layla over in her cute little flower costume. She was adorable! We ended up watching the movie “Sahara”. I fell asleep halfway through it…so I’m not quite sure how it ended. I’ll have to rent it again I suppose. Anyway, I’m off for my last college fair of the semester (applause please!). It’s up in northern Illinois, so I have to get on the road pretty quickly. I’m staying at Geof and Lauri’s house tonight though, so that’ll be good. I get so sick of staying at hotels all by my lonesome. That being said…I better finish this up and hit the road!
