The weekend’s almost gone….

admin April 10th, 2005

It’s been a pretty good weekend for me…nothing unlike the usual though. Friday I ended up staying at work until 5:45 (nearly 2 hours longer than I’d hoped for). I had a student and a family on campus for a visit, so most of my day was taken up by that. I thought I’d get home decent time, but then I realized that I had recieved a bazillion e-mails that day too, and I really needed to respond to them. So yeah..got home late, but I guess it was worth it. Jared had to work on a project with his Core 401 group, so I ran to Wal-Mart to get a few random things. Picked up some cool end tables to go with our new park benches on our porch. I also got some cool candles to put on the table. We’re totally ready for outside gatherings. Got home and Jared and I watched “Oh Brother Where Art Thou.” It was actually really good! I’d heard a lot of mixed reviews, so I didn’t know what to expect. Definitely very remniscent of Homer’s Odessey.
Saturday I slept in while Jared went to class. I talked to my mom for like an hour, which is always fun. I miss having her around! Jared and I worked on putting our benches together and met a few of our new neighbors. It was soooo nice to have a yard to hang out in yesterday. That’s something we didn’t have at the old apartment, so it’s great to have it now. After a day of work, we showered up and headed to Ponderosa (just like all the locals!). We devoured steaks and other tasty buffet items and finally rolled ourselves our the door and back home. We rested for another hour at home and then headed off to see a movie. We watched “Fever Pitch” and it was adorable! Lots of sappy girl stuff for me and lots of baseball craziness for Jared. Perfect date movie!
Today we went to early church and then Sunday School. We had a quick lunch of BLT’s and chips…and now I’m working on laundry while Jared watches the Cub’s game. It was a good weekend. I really miss having more friends around here though. Greenville’s a great place to live, but I really feel like we need to get out more often. I talked with my good buddy Karyn on Saturday…and gosh, I wish I had more of my girlfriends down this way. (Yes…Nicole…I read your blog from this weekend and I feel the exact same way….I miss having everyone around!) So yeah…move to Greenville and be our friend…do it! :-)

Mid-Week sleepiness….

admin April 7th, 2005

So I’ve been staying up way too late this past week. What’s funny though, is that while midnight is late for me now…it used to be nothing. Long gone are the days of all-nighters and regularly going to bed around 2-3 a.m. I need my sleep…in bed by 10:30 usually works the best. It just hasn’t been happening lately though. I find myself freaking out whenver the alarm goes off…and then carelessly forgetting what the alarm stands for. So I gracefully turn it off and roll over and sleep a sleep that causes me to race to work because I’m usually late. Aside from that, it’s been a rather busy week. Monday night was late at work so I could get some calling to my students done. Tuesday night was also a later night at work, followed by a mad cleaning of our apartment. Yesterday was a long day at work followed by a meeting with a friend of mine who works with personal finances (or something like that). Anyway, he and his boss came over and helped us set up our IRA and all that good stuff….yay for retirement planning. We already have a 401K set up…so we’re totally on the way to great retirement years. It’s weird that you have to start planning for all of tha when you’re so young. So I can tell you all about it now…my dad would be so proud! His little girl is into stocks and bonds! Anyway, that ended pretty late and I still had to make a cheesecake and bake potatoes for supper tonight. Tonight my student workers are coming over for dinner at our house. (I have them over ever other month or so…because they love to get away from campus and they love food.) I’m making them my famous baked potato soup, sourdough bread and yummy cheesecake. It makes me feel so good when I realize that I’m helping to make their college years better. College is such a blast…and people who took the time to invite me over always made me feel better. Anyway, I best end this and get back to work. It’ll be a busy day because I have to leave at 4:00 to start on the soup. Adios!

So this weekend was pretty good. Saturday I had to get up early and meet with a student for a campus visit. After that I made my way downtown for a haircut at Jim’s…which is always great. He always makes my hair look awesome…which is a great thing. I keep letting him cut it shorter and shorter, but it’s fun. Saturday night Jared and I snuggled up for some yummy pot roast and potatoes and biscuits and watched The Butterfly Effect…which you should all go watch! It really makes you think…and it’s just plain old weird. Sunday after we went to church and Sunday School…I was off to a college fair at Kaskaskia. I don’t like working on Sundays, but it was a good fair. Jared and I went to Value City (which is always a blast!). We got some new clothes and a few things for around the house. I cleaned around the house for a bit too and finished up the laundry. Last night however, Jared and I both woke up around 4 a.m. with pains in our tummies. Though neither of us got sick…we both felt nasty and were really dizzy. Jared was fine this morning, but I wasn’t. I finally used a sick day (I haven’t yet) and stayed home. It was probably a good idea though…I’m feeling much better now. Tonight Jared and I watched the Cub’s season opener and the Illini game. Both were good games, even though the Illini didn’t win. Such a crazy game! In the midst of the games I finally took the time to finish filing our taxes. Yeah…we procrastinated. So that’s done now and we can use the money to book our anniversary vacation. I’m gonna finish this up and hang out with the hubby and get to bed soon. I have a feeling that tomorrow morning will get here long before I want it to. Adios!

Concert Fun

admin April 1st, 2005

Ok, so yesterday was super great! To begin with, work went really well and I felt like I got a lot done. It was such a beautiful day too. In the afternoon I went to get fruit freezes with the other counselors. I had peach-strawberry and it was YUMMY! Jared and I went to pick up our Market Day order that afternoon at the junior high, and we got a phone call from Steve Shandley. Well Steve and Amanda were on their way to St. Louis for the Jeremy Camp/Mercy Me concert…and they had an extra ticket. So, I was nice and told Jared he could go…that it would be good for him to hang out with Steve. (Though inside I wanted to hang out with them too!) So I did the good wife thing and said goodbye and went back to work. So when I walk into the office, Ryan (another counselor) is talking about how he and his wife and a friend are going to the concert and they had an extra ticket (because they’d won 4 tickets). So yay…they give it to me so I can go with Jared and the Shandley’s! I quickly ran home to change and we hit the road so we could meet up with Amanda and Steve in Edwardsville. We cram into our fancy new red truck and rush off to the concert. We missed the first opening band, but that was ok. Steve ran sound on Jeremy’s tour last fall, so their road manager escorted us to the front for some great seats. After Jeremy was done playing, Steve took us back to hang out with Jeremy and the band…how cool is that? I’m not a crazy band person, but it was fun to meet everyone. It’s great to see that people in bands (especially Christian bands) can be down to earth and just as on fire for God off-stage as they are on-stage. We watched the beginning and the end of the Mercy Me show…which was awesome as well. We hung out with the band for awhile after the show too, and then it was time to hit the road. All in all…it was a fabulous night! Very random and last minute…but awesome. We haven’t seen Amanda and Steve in forever…and we missed them. So yay…a concert…good friends…my hubby…super night had by all! And now I shall get back to work and enjoy the rest of this Friday. Adios!
