Snowing….Again

admin February 28th, 2005

That’s right, it’s snowing again. Last night Jared and I were taking a run around town in our shorts…but today it’s snowing. Gotta love living in Illinois! It’s great to experience all 4 seasons, but I’d like to know when they’re coming and when they’re going. Jared and I had a good weekend. Friday night we went out to eat at Lottawatta Creek and we splurged on BBQ ribs and all the fixins. We totally stuffed ourselves and it was oh my delicious! We went back home and watched “Without a Paddle” which was actually pretty good. I had a hair appointment Saturday morning. Got my hair hacked off a little bit more. Every time I go there, I always end up with shorter hair. I guess I’m addicted or something! It’s the shortest now that it’s been since I was was in kindergarten. I love it though. Long hair is great, but short hair is fun. Jared and I successfully managed to sit around in pj’s all day long (once I got back from my hair appointment), watching all 3 Back To the Future’s and eating nothing but cheap cookies and chips. It was a grand and marvelous day! Finally around 7:00 I worked on laundry while Jared did dishes. Sunday we went to church and Sunday School, which was awesome. It’s so great to finally be comfortable at a church down here. We miss Vale, but we’re starting to make some good connections again. After that I headed off to a College Fair (who schedules college fairs for Sundays!?). That went well, I ate some yummy St. Louis Bread Co. and headed back home to sit around and watch the Oscars with the hubby. Oh…good times!

Come back weekend…come back!

admin February 21st, 2005

So I love weekends, not that I don’t love getting up and going to work everyday, but man…sleeping in and being a bum all Saturday just does it for me! Actually, aside from somehow sleeping in until 1:30 on Saturday, I really did get a lot done. Friday night Jared and I went to see “Hitch” and it was fabulous! I’m such a sucker for cheesy romance movies…but they’re so darn good! There were, however, the most annoying movie goers EVER sitting several seats down from us. Someone needs to let all 16 year old girls know that belching, laughing loudly and commenting on every guy on the screen is ANNOYING! Anyway…go see “Hitch” and don’t tell me if you hate it…I don’t want to hear it! :-) We made a late-night Wal-Mart run after the movie…it’s been so long since we’ve done that. It made me realize how old and non-college like we are though…I nearly fell asleep in the store. Saturday we slept in…which was great. Jared had homework to finish up, so I worked on cleaning up the house and doing laundry. Have I mentioned how great it is to have our own washer and dryer?! Cause seriously…it rocks! We caved that night for supper and had McDonald’s. We’ve been so good about not wasting our money on fast food…but it was necessary. Those golden fries were oh-my-delicious! The golden arches have a way to my heart! (Seriously…and they clog it up with nasty grease!) Saturday night was spent watching Home and Garden network…yay for home renovation. Sunday morning we went to early service and tried out a new small group. It’s mainly young married couples, and we really enjoyed it. It was nice to be around new people that are going through the same things we are. There’s also some engaged couples in the class too…and it’s neat to see them at that stage as well. It’s hard to believe that Jared and I are coming up on 9 months of marriage. Time flies when you’re with the one you love and you’re having a blast being married to them! I cleaned more on Sunday afternoon and that evening we went to Vandalia and orderded some Pizza Hut for carry out….drooool. We ate pizza and watched Sex in the City season 1…darn my roommates in college for getting me hooked on that show! Anyway, this is getting quite lengthy and I’m ready to go home and see my hubby. So more updates later I’m sure. Adios! :-)

Other than Valentine’s Day, not too much has happened this week. Valentine’s was spent waiting over an hour to eat at Olive Garden (which was definitely worth the wait). Jared got me The Notebook on dvd, which is awesome. I’m planning on watching it over and over again this weekend. (Yes, it’s just that sappy and good.) Women of the world…go buy a box of tissues…get some chocolate…and rent it! Jake (Jared’s roommate from college) came down to visit on Tuesday. We had a cookout at the Morford’s and ended up over at our place to play a little Dance Dance Revolution. Seriously, that game can make anyone smile! Wednesday was devoted to Alias and American Idol…our television obessions. Both were awesome…as always. Thursday I had to stay late at work and call students…so I didn’t get home until late. That’s ok though…I still had time to clean up the kitchen and watch The Stepford Wives. Strange movie, but I liked it. I’d really like to see the original now. That brings us to today. In 10 minutes the weekend starts, and I’m killing time writing in my blog. I definitely talked with my mom for 45 minutes on the phone this afternoon. She’s the coolest! I can’t wait until we live closer to our family again. I found out my grandma just got internet, so now I get to send her e-mail. My grandma’s cooler than your grandma…so there! :-) Anyway, lots of cleaning to do this weekend…just getting the house back into shape and whatnot. I think we’re going to see “Hitch” tonight at The Globe. I’ve heard it’s pretty good…so we’ll see how that goes. Oh…a student just called…gotta give em’ the Greenville shpeel (however you spell that) and then I can go home! Happy Weekend everyone!!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Back at work again…

admin February 7th, 2005

That’s right, it’s Monday and I’m back at work…just sitting here in my office-at my desk-playing with my laptop-trying desparately to get myself motivated. (Motivation usually comes after staring at my desk for close to an hour.) The weekend was good. Friday night Jared and I ate frozen pizza and watched “Wimbledon”…which actually a pretty good movie. (We’re now determined to become professional tennis players…we’ll see how that goes.) Got to bed decent time and I got to sleep in while Jared went to Core 401 Saturday morning. (For you non-Greenvillians…Core 401 is a Senior seminar course that ALL seniors take and it just so convienently takes place at the crack of dawn once a month on a Saturday.) So yeah…I was waking up when Jared was getting back from that. Ah yes…sleep is goooood! Steven (Jared’s older brother) came over on Saturday and helped Jared fix the beast (his car). It only has 3 working brakes now, but as long as you don’t go over 45 mph…you’re good to go! (Worry not…as soon as we get rid of the lease at the other apartment, we’re buying a different car.) For now we just drive my car…the good ol’ Gling mobile gets us where we need to go. While they were fixing the car, I was cleaning around the house. I got so much done! It was so nice outside that I opened the windows up and it really made the house feel cozy. I even got some work done in the scary mess known as our office. It’s almost put together! We’re waiting to get some frames for our posters for that room. Sunday was good too. Service was at the new FM church…and it was great. So many people there! Anyway, we finally committed ourselves to a small group, which I think will really be good for us. If anything…we’ll get to meet more young married couples like ourselves. It starts next Sunday, and hopefully it goes well. Jared spent the afternoon playing X-Box, while I visited with my friend Cat from college. She was in town and stopped by to see us. Of course we watched the Superbowl in the evening. I just watched to see the new commericials and PAUL McCARTNEY!!!! Seriously…he should play for the half-time show every year. If I weren’t less than half his age, or married……..haha. Watching the show made me realize how badly I want to see him play live again. (My brother took me to see him 3 years ago on his Driving Rain tour….drool.) I’d definitely think about selling like my right arm or something to see that concert again. Ok, well maybe not…but I’d think about it! Anyway, back to work I must go. Enjoy your day! (That is…if you’re reading this…does anyone read this?!)

Survey Fun….

admin February 4th, 2005

Here’s a fun survey for your enjoyment…have fun!

FIRSTS

First best friend: Julie Savage…in 2nd grade she taught me what it meant to trust someone and really become a good friend.
First car : Aside from my mom’s “Frog Van” that I was forced to drive for a year after I got my liscence…my first car that was my own was a 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix (Gling mobile #1).
First date: Aside from various dances and such in junior high, I’m pretty sure my first “real” date was with Ben Shephard my sophmore year…yeah…I was a bit dorky up until that point. I think I came out of my shell once high school started…got rid of the braces…got contacts…learned that straight hair was better than perm. :-)
First kiss: Mark Leesman…waaaay back in 4th grade.
First screen name: Ummm…I don’t think I have one of those and probably won’t.
First self purchased album: New Kids on the Block (self-titled album) on cassette.
First funeral: The first funeral I remember going to was my Great-Grandma Kendall, my freshman year of college. (Yeah…I didn’t really experience death up until that point.)
First pets: We’ve had a variety of dogs over the years, but my first pet that was my “own” was a little gerbil named “Dinky”. Dinky died one day while I was at school…he had a heart attack on his exercise wheel…poor, poor Dinky.
First piercing/tattoo: Got my ears pierced at the old age of 14.
First credit card : The only credit card I’ve ever had is my Victoria’s Secret card.
First true love : Jared Michael Smith…I may have crushes before him, but he taught me how to love. Well this is Drew Carry…I did love him for awhile, but nobody else seemed to understand…so I moved on. :-)
First enemy: Instead of going with a person…I’m going to go with my splitter. A splitter is a psycho-device that helps to separate the bones in the roof of your mouth. Before I got braces, I had a splitter to make my mouth bigger. Not only did it hurt…but I couldn’t eat taffy, chew gum and a whole host of other things. I hate you splitter! (But I do love my fine smile that it helped me out with.)
First musician you remember hearing in your house: The Beatles (Thanks mom!)

Last cigarette: Never…yuck!
Last car ride: About 2 hours ago…from our house to work.

Last movie seen: Starsky and Hutch (the new one)
Last beverage: Amaretto blend coffee of some sort from Jo’s Java…deliteful!
Last food consumed: Blueberry bagel, toasted with cream cheese

Last item bought: Amaretto Coffee and a Blueberry Bagel

Last disappointment: Last night when I wanted to watch “The Nanny” on reruns (yeah…I like that show)…and Jared was playing football on the X-Box.
Last shirt worn: Fuzzy red and pink sweater…it’s kind of chunky with a tall neck and it’s sooo cozy!
Last website visited: www.reporting.greenville.edu
Last word you said: I was talking with another admissions counselor about scholarship opportunities for our upcoming students that we’re working with.
Last song you sang: Well, I’ve had a cold all week and my voice has been gone…so I really haven’t been singing. I do remember getting that stupid “Daisy” sour cream jingle stuck in my head the other day though…so we’ll go with that.
